This interval is 1 minute by default and can be customized to any value between 1 second and 24 hours. The second half of the server-side process is controlled by the Address Book Service which pulls information from the SQL database and writes the changes to the address book files.
Set the Lync client initial delay for address book download to 0: Start the registry editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Communicator, and create a new DWORD value named Gal Download Initial Delay, then set the data to 0 and click OK. Close the Lync client if it’s running and delete the Gal and Gal idx files, which you will find in your profile (e.g., C:\Users\john117\App Data\Local\Microsoft\Communicator\[email protected]). Start the Lync client, and the address book should download.
If this is not the case or for some reason normal replication is failing then a manual process can be used to toss out the entire copy of AD information in the SQL database’s address book store and regenerate a completely new copy.
To rebuild Lync’s copy of the AD data simply use the cmdlet.
Adding a registry entry like this eliminates any delay in the refresh.
Update-Cs User Database is a Power Shell cmdlet for updating Lync’s user database.
The local Lync Address Book will override information kept in the Lync Address Book Services Web Query (ABS-WQ).
